DESCRIPTION Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride is a orally active cationic antimicrobial agent that targets microbial cell membranes. Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride binds to cell membrane phospholipids non-specifically, destroys membrane structure and induces leakage of cell contents. Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride has broad-spectrum bactericidal activity against both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria. Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride can interfere with membrane permeability, cause protein precipitation and energy metabolism disorders, such as rapid inhibition of microbial growth and induction of cell death (necrosis or apoptosis)[1][2][3].

DESCRIPTION Chlorhexidine dihydrochloride (NSC-185) is a disinfectant and topical anti-infective agent used also as mouthwash to prevent oral plaque. (TargetMol Bioactive Compound Library)
DESCRIPTION Chlorhexidine digluconate is a broad-spectrum antiseptic and disinfectant with broad-spectrum antimicrobial activity, inhibits both Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria, induces necrosis and apoptosis, and can be used in the study of bacterial infections. (TargetMol Bioactive Compound Library)
DESCRIPTION Chlorhexidine (Rotersept) is a biguanide compound used as an antiseptic agent with topical antibacterial activity. Chlorhexidine is positively charged and reacts with the negatively charged microbial cell surface, thereby destroying the integrity of the cell membrane. Subsequently, chlorhexidine penetrates into the cell and causes leakage of intracellular components leading to cell death. Since gram-positive bacteria are more negatively charged, they are more sensitive to this agent. (TargetMol Bioactive Compound Library)
DESCRIPTION Chlorhexidine diacetate (Bactigras) is a disinfectant and topical anti-infective agent used also as mouthwash to prevent oral plaque. (TargetMol Bioactive Compound Library)
