DESCRIPTION Fosmidomycin was first identified as antibiotic but also has antimalarial activity. The compound is under clinical development as a treatment for uncomplicated P. falciparum malaria.

Potential Target/Mechanism Of Action: Fosmidomycin is believed to block the non-mevalonate pathway of isoprenoid biosynthesis by inhibiting the second enzyme in the pathway, 1-deoxy-D-xylulose 5-phosphate reductoisomerase (DXR) .
